Gather at the Well
Foundations of Norse Ritual Animism

In this three-part on-line class, participants will explore relationships with the living world of the ancestors, the Earth, and Norse ancestral powers while developing foundational ritual skills. These ritual skills enable participants to engage in animism as a part of everyday life and can be applied to any animism-based practice. We will also explore aspects of Old Norse cosmology and mythology from the perspective of a pantheistic, universally-relevant wisdom tradition that speaks to the initiation of the soul into self-knowledge.

Part 1 focuses on ancestral lineage healing and foundational ritual skills. Participants will meet their wise and well ancestors and learn foundational ritual skills for developing a personal animism-based practice. These skills will be reinforced throughout Parts 2 and 3. In Part 2 we will explore relationships with the Earth, land spirits, and natural powers as presented in accounts of early Germanic cultures and medieval Norse literature. In Part 3 we will explore wisdom, magic, and the ruling powers as presented in medieval Norse literature. As we go, we will look at some of the modern stereotypes of Old Norse culture and aim to develop a more wholistic perspective.

Classes will have both didactic and experiential components and ritual High Seats will be integrated into the class structure. Participants will also receive supplemental material in the form of articles and pre-recorded additional lectures.

This work is offered in the spirit of diversity and inclusiveness. While this class may be particularly appealing to those with Norse ancestry, it can also be relevant to people with other Germanic ancestry (English, Dutch, German), those who have a soul affinity, and those who are just drawn to Norse mythology, cosmology, and history. Participants of all cultural backgrounds are welcome.

*There is a prerequisite that participants complete the first step in Daniel Foor’s ancestral lineage healing process (the assessment step) before starting the group sessions. This can be done in a private session or, for those who feel comfortable, using Daniel Foor’s book Ancestral Medicine (Exercise 4).
